Realtor Joe Salerno and his wife are leaving behind a handful of buyers who bought homes in the area and are looking to sell.
But as they head back to Orlando for a vacation, they’re also worried about the future.
“I’m a bit apprehensive about this place,” Salerno said.
“The people that are buying are people that didn’t live here for a long time.
There’s a few who didn’t move here for about two years.”
Salerno was among the buyers who moved to Orlando from San Diego in 2012.
They bought two houses in Palm Beach County, which is the closest area to Orlando.
The property, located at 635 W. Beach Blvd., is a former home for the Palm Beach National Guard.
The couple bought it in October.
“We didn’t really know the market here until we got here,” Salero said.
The house has three bedrooms, two baths and a three-car garage, according to the listing.
It’s on a 1.25-acre lot.
A home inspector told The Orlando Sentinel that the house was assessed at $2.6 million in 2017.
The seller has been waiting on the house to be appraised for a couple of years.
“At this point, we’re just waiting for a buyer to come in and see what’s the market for the house,” Salillo said.
As the property gets closer to closing, Salero is worried about who’s going to live there.
“When you’re trying to get a house for a lot of money, it doesn’t take long to lose money,” he said.
A property surveyor said the house has been vacant for three years.
The city is planning a community meeting next week to discuss the potential changes.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to get involved,” Orlando City FC owner Shahid Khan said.
But the home has been a major draw for local buyers.
Salerno’s daughter, who lives in the neighborhood, bought a home nearby.
“She’s very interested in moving in,” Salimi said.
She was able to move in with her parents last year.
Salimi has sold two other properties in Palm Bay County, but the home he bought was sold in January.
He hopes to sell it in the next couple of weeks.
He and his girlfriend also bought another house on the same lot.
The sale is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Orlando is a city with a high rate of foreclosures, according the Florida Department of Community Affairs.
In 2017, foreclosers in the city reported 7,097 forecloses, a number that has stayed stable since then, according department data.
“In my opinion, if people had a little more foresight, they would have stayed in Orlando,” Khan said, but he worries that a shortage of homes in Palm Springs could affect demand.
“They’ve got a big market for properties right here,” he added.
“There are a lot more people here that aren’t buying properties.”
